The 4 Secret, health benefits of grilling your food.

In Costa Maya there are many ways to enjoy a fabulous day at port, either going on an expedition, snorkeling on the reef, or simply enjoying the perks of traveling to the Caribbean, and one of those perks include mouthwatering dishes prepared in different ways, and the favorite of many is always –On the grill

Nothing compares to that exquisite, smoky flavor that grilling gives to food, and in Costa Maya we have the right place to get the best: El Faro.

But before getting into details of the benefits of grilling your food, let us share with you some history about this traditional way of cooking.

Thousand years ago, roasting was the only way to cook food. Our ancestors used to grill everything! Meat, fish and vegetables were the centerpiece of the gatherings around a bonfire. They made the first skewers inserting food pieces on their spears and then stacking them over the crackling flames.

Nowadays, despite having a variety of ways to prepare exquisite dishes, grilling is still one of the favorites styles to cook around the word.

Think about a barbecue or a hamburger roasting on the grill, it’s impossible not to feel the salivation in your mouth, and what about that amazing look, and the smell, it’s just irresistible.

And this is only the delicious part, but cooking on the grill has many more benefits, besides the social side of getting together with your friends around the grill on the 4th of July, the evenings and the weekends.

Beyond all these advantages, eating food on the grill, as we cook at El Faro, has also different benefits to your health.

We want to share with you the 4 benefits of cooking on the grill.

1. Grill the fat away. Food cooked on a grill has considerably less calories than fried food, since any inherent fat seeps off, reducing the number of calories you ingest.

2. Fire up your metabolism. Meat cooked on the grill preserves more of its thiamine and riboflavin, which are vitamins of the complex B that boost metabolism and provide the body with enough energy to perform its daily activities.

3. Give me the juice. You will use less butter. If you are a master of the grill and do not overcook the food, you’ll obtain juicy cuts of meat and the tastiest veggies. This happens because the grill locks in most of the moisture, so you’ll put less unhealthy condiments to your food.

4. Veggie grill: Also, as the vegetables take less time to cook on the grill than on regular methods, they usually retain more of their properties and nutrients, and also maintain their texture, color and flavor. The best fruits and veggies to put on the grill are: onion, pear, tomato, zucchini, corn and bell pepper.

So, when visiting Costa Maya, get around the pit at El Faro, our chefs have a wide array of delicious food sizzling on the grill for you, from spring onions and roasted veggies, to luscious grilled lobster, the best option for grill lovers.
