Mahahual, a part of the Grand Costa Maya

Grand Costa Maya is also the name of the constituent region of Bacalar, Chetumal and of course, Mahahual.

This time we are thrilled to talk to you about Mahahual. The hidden gem for those who wish to escape from the crowd and noise in the city.

This fishing village is almost 2 hours away from Chetumal, the capital of the state of Quintana Roo.

For a long time, it was only visited by a few because of its simplicity and modesty. It started growing thanks to several factors. One of these is Banco Chinchorro, the second largest coral reef in the world. Snorkelers from all around the world come to discover unique species surrounding the area.

It is also the home to the “Governors Fishing Cup” a catch and release tournament for fishing enthusiasts.

In 2007, Mahahual welcomed Dean, a hurricane that destroyed a big part of the town and port. Although it was a difficult time, it was also a great opportunity to improve and create new opportunities.

So on your next stop at the port of Costa Maya, make sure to spend some time at Mahahual, we promise you’ll love it!

We should also mention the beauty of Mahahual’s majestic green jungle. The freshness of the natural breeze is something all visitors enjoy.
